Adult Club Etiquette

Before hitting the town for a night at the strip clubs, take the time to learn some "do"s and "don't"s. The first thing you should know about Utah's Adult Clubs is what makes them unique.

What's a Private Club?
There are several different types of adult clubs in Utah with different pricing structures. Clubs that have nude dancers are alcohol-free and charge a higher entrance fee. You must be over 18 to enter. Private clubs are for patrons over 21; they have a full liquor selection. Private clubs require you to purchase a temporary membership (usually around $5 for a three week membership) or annual membership (ranges from $12 up depending on the club) at the door. Bars that only serve wine and beer do not require a membership. Many of the bars and private clubs also serve food -- from lunch specials to dinner entrees. Some have pool tables, video games and TV's like any good sports bar.

Look But Don't Touch
Utah law says that patrons may not touch a dancer at any time. Place your tips on the stage, not in her garter belt. Lap dances are permitted in certain clubs. If you buy a lap dance, she can touch you, but you must keep your hands to yourself. Manhandling a dancer will make Bruno the security guard very angry. You do not want to see Bruno angry.

Tipping
Dancers work for tips. It is considered rude to stare at a dancer without leaving a tip. Never sit stage-side unless you have dollars in hand. It's common to tip at least $1 per song per dancer. Lap dances cost approximately $20 each in the establishments that allow them. Don't forget to tip your door staff, cocktail server and bartender as well.

Utah's adult club laws may seem confusing. If you have questions, call ahead to the club for information on their regulations. When in doubt, observe the other patrons for cues on etiquette or ask the door person for some hints. Most of all, use common sense, act respectfully and have fun!
